Happy Tuesday, fellow readers! It's the last day of March. Another month down. I'm still waiting on the warmer weather to stick around. It just so happens that this week's book recommendation is just as unpredictable as the weather. This thrilling psychological extreme horror book is called "The Last Time I Saw Her" by Jae Mazer.
First, the trigger warnings, and there are plenty of them.

Well, there they are. Are you still with me? I do want to caution anyone with sensitivities that this one may not be for you. I don't have triggers, and I enjoy extreme horror. With that being said, there were aspects in this book that made even me uncomfortable. So basically, read at your own risk.
"The Last Time I Saw Her" is book three of the Gossamer and Pitch Series, however it can be read as a stand alone. As mentioned, it brings some pretty heavy triggers. I understand very well that extreme horror books exist to push the proverbial envelope, so I get what the author was doing, however, some aspects were repetitive and lost that shock factor crossing over into the distasteful and crude for crudeness sake category. There are only so many times I can read about disgusting things being put in or expelled from a vagina before I'm over it. That being said, I did still rate this book four stars, as even though it had elements that were not my preference, it was still a good read.
Let's talk psychological trips. This one is a non-stop psychological trip. It's hard to tell at times whether things are really happening or just happening in Anna's head including whether some characters are real or just part of Anna, the main character. It makes for a thrilling story though a bit hard to follow sometimes.
The characters are varied and each one has deep psychological trauma. The area itself is steeped in trauma and Anna and Liza take in those who are troubled. So, there's a lot to unpack.
Here is my official review.
There is a lot to unpack with this book. It's psychological, confusing, and involves extreme horror. Like witnessing a horrendous accident, you just can't look away. I enjoy extreme horror so it doesn't bother me, however if you have any sensitivies this may not be the right choice for you. If you enjoy a challenging read that will test you at every turn, then you are in the right place.
