Happy Tuesday, fellow readers! I hope that everyone is doing well. The weather is still bouncing around from warm to cold here and my dog ran into my knee the other day causing it to twist oddly. So, I'm limping around even more than I usually am. The only good part is that I had an excuse to read while resting my knee. And comfort reading brings me to this week's recommendation, a cozy paranormal mystery called "Ropes and Last Hopes" by Trixie Silvertale.
Before we jump in, let's start with the trigger warnings.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶
Trigger Warnings:
Murder
Grief
Mentions of abuse and past trauma
Par for the course for a cozy, the triggers are not bad. It's sometimes just the right fit to have a murder mystery without the darkness and the gore. It focuses on the mystery and on Mitzy, our FMC. Mitzy is an interesting character. Her story reminded me of Cassandra from The Good Witch TV series. I adore that series. Mitzy has some similarities to Cassandra including being the owner of a bookstore called the Bell, Book, and Candle, having psychic powers, living in a small town, and being engaged to a hottie. After that the similarities end, which is good, as the story becomes unique.
About that aforementioned hottie, Erick Harper is the town sheriff. He puts on a strong facade like he's keeping Mitzy away from cases in front of the other officers, but in private he does what he can to include her and get her help with cases. It's cute.
I did deduct a star from this one as I'd really like to see more. Not more as in more books in the series, because there are more thankfully. I mean more as in more content and more details. I feel like there were missed opportunities to get further into the wrestling world as it was kind of grazed over. I wanted more of that not just a side note. It felt way too easy and quick for her to get information. The whole investigation was too easy and a bit predictable. I still enjoyed the book, but it has way more untapped potential.
Another character that I loved is Pyewacket. This large cat seems to be able to communicate but minimally and seems to leave clues about cases which is very cool and helpful. I'm a sucker for a good animal sidekick.
Here is my official review.
A fun read that includes a ghost, a helpful feline, and a smattering of romance. Tje beginning felt familiar with the mentions of the Bell, Book, and Candle bookstore which is in The Good Witch. Mitzy's story resembles Cassandra's story a bit as well in the beginning but then branches off into it's own direction. I mostly enjoyed the grandmother ghost and the helpful big cat.

That does it for me for this week, dear readers. Please join me again next week for another wonderful recommendation. Until then, curl up with a good book.
