Happy Tuesday, fellow readers! I apologize for missing a week, but we all have to take care of ourselves, right? Hopefully you caught up some more on your TBR list. I'm just lucky that mine is digital or I'd have a room full of books awaiting me. Haha. Now on to this week's recommendation. It is a paranormal fantasy adventure with a hint of potential romance called "The Last Priestess" by Elizabeth Baxter.

I found "The Last Priestess" through the "Sword and Magic" anthology. It is the first book in the "Songmaker" series. It is a darker book with death and destruction lurking around every corner and tragic pasts haunting the present.
Maegwin and Rovann are both complex and kind of intense characters. I read some reviews saying that the characters weren't very fleshed out. I disagree. The thing to keep in mind is that this is the first of a series. The author isn't going to give us everything in book one. There has to be some mystery, but with that being said, I found quite a bit of backstory with each of the characters that helped to understand them.
I know that books in a series can sometimes leave off on cliffhangers. I can forgive this occasionally even though I hate it. If you dislike cliffhangers too... well... you can guess why I brought it up. I thoroughly enjoyed the different types of magic, and I do look forward to reading more of the series.
Here is my official review:
From the noose to trying to save a kingdom.
"The Last Priestess" is dark and moody with a hint of possible romance. It is an interesting book one of the Songmaker series. Maegwin is a complex character as is Rovann but somehow Elizabeth Baxter manages to make you root for them. I look forward to continuing the series.
If you'd like to meet these interesting characters and dive into this magical kingdom you can get "The Last Priestess" here: https://a.co/d/eJXSRe8
That does it for me for this week, dear readers. Please join me again next week for another wonderful recommendation. Until then, curl up with a good book.
