Happy Tuesday, fellow readers. Are you frozen too? We just dug out from under a foot or so of snow. Eww! When I'm distressed, I run to my go to comfort zone...horror. Bless my little black heart, but I love it. So, this week's recommendation is a horror book called "The Devouring" by R.S. Cunningham. Let's go!
First, the trigger warnings.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Miscarriage
Explicit language
Mild sexual content

Death of a dog
Suicide/Murder
Mentions of pedophilia
This book is so unique in that it has stories within stories that all lend to the larger underlying plot. I found it intriguing and loved putting the pieces together. Having each character tell a personal horror story worked out so well in this book. It was never slow, repetitive, or boring. It kept me hooked, but it isn't for the easily scared. It'll make you start questioning the shadows and make you want to leave the lights on.
It's so unique also in that you don't even learn the main character's full name until the end. It's done intentionally, it seems, as most of the other characters cant pronounce her name and some don't even know her name. She is such a good character, too. I love how this was done.
Each story is haunting and grips you from beginning to end. The Grey was one that would be truly terrifying and it had further reach than the one incident. It was definitely creepy and sad.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Here is my official review.
Scary stories within a scary story! What a treat! "The Devouring" is unexpected and haunting with many twists and turns. If you scare easily, you might want to read this one with all the lights on.

That does it for me for this week, dear readers. Please join me again next week for another wonderful recommendation. Until then, curl up with a good book.
