Shifting Sides and Ever Bound

Happy Tuesday, fellow readers! I have a two for Tuesday treat for you today. The first book is the book club pick, of course. This one is a satisfying enemies to lovers paranormal romance novella called Shifting Sides by Johnna Dee. Let's jump right in, shall we?

As you can see, Shifting Sides deals with some dark themes. Johnna brings us two feuding families reminiscent of the Montagues and Capulets or the Hatfields and the McCoys but with a shifter twist.

What happens when someone who is your sworn enemy suddenly becomes your love interest? Can love end a centuries old feud? It is a wonderful basis, and I thoroughly enjoyed how Johnna navigated not only an ongoing war between clans but the dark side of human (or in this case shifter) nature as well.

She paints such a vivid picture of the FMC Elizabella and her home that you can picture it perfectly, and you can't help but empathize with Bella and wish for a better life for her.

A satisfying enemies to lovers tale.

Johnna did a wonderful job with this paranormal enemies to lovers romance. The fact that the two clans/packs were feuding for centuries for no real reason lended a tense undertone to the novella and made the relationship stand out even more. It is a satisfying quick read.

Now, on to our second book! This one is a continuation of a series that I have written about before. It is a dark why choose paranormal romance and this installment is called Ever Bound by K.D. Smalls.

Are you still with me? I hope so. This is a spicy one with some dark themes. I swear I did not go on a dark theme spree! The first book was just it's time in the book club and this one was an ARC that released today. So, it is a happy coincidence, I suppose. If you love dark themes, like me, I'm sure you won't mind.

Ever Bound is the third book in the Solis Lake Academy series, and I was excited to get back to Everly and her trio of hotties. K.D. is fantastic at picking up right where she left off in the last book and this one does just that.

Book three brings in more drama, more mystery, more powers, some twists, and even more spice. As you can see from the trigger warnings this one differs from the first two books in that it brings in an MM, male male, component. There are only a couple of actual MM scenes but the build up is a strong theme in the book, so if it isn't something you enjoy you might not like this one. I personally don't mind as it didn't take away from Everly and her reverse harem dynamic.

Overall, this spicy thrill ride was a fantastic read. I always have a hard time putting K.D.'s books down and this was no exception. Book three was supposed to be the final of the series, so I was surprised that it changed and there will be a book four. I am definitely not mad about it though! More, please!

If you have read the other two books, and you should before reading this one, you'll know K.D. seemingly loves cliff hangers, so yeah, there's another one. I am not one for spoilers, but I know that some people aren't cliff hanger fans, so I thought I'd warn you. It's totally worth the torture when that next book comes out though, you guys, I promise.

Scorching!

K.D. really brings the heat in book three! I love that it picks up right where book two left off. Just like the previous books, there is plenty of spice and this one is the spiciest yet. The storyline is still there looming in the background and popping up at the most inopportune times for the characters. I was surprised that the three book series will now be a four book series, but I am so here for it! A definite must read.
