Happy Tuesday, fellow readers! I hope that everyone is staying cool and dry. It's been hard to stay dry around here. But atleast it's good curling up with a book weather. This week's pick is perfect for just that. It is a paranormal cozy mystery called "Midlife or Death" by Cindy Stark.
Since this is a cozy, it doesn't have many triggers, but here are the few I could think of.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Clean
Triggers:
Witches
Demons
Murder
Infidelity
I absolutely devoured this one. I'm a sucker for the paranormal and for murder mysteries so I am always over the moon when the two combine. There's also something so oddly satisfying about a clean book with just a hint of romance. It's new beginnings and endless possibilities.
This was my first book by Cindy Stark. I was originally drawn in by the title and the cute kitten on the cover. I enjoy her writing style and the world building that she has started. I can just imagine this small mountain town, the cat cafe, and the festival space. It's like a place I'd love to be. It's warm, familiar, and interesting.
The characters are dynamic, and I love that Daisy, the female main character (FMC), is in her 40s. Though attractive, she hasn't ever settled down and was even a solitary witch for 10 years. As a bit of a loner myself, I connected with her on that last part. I appreciate that her life is changing and evolving at a time that most people are settling into a routine or have been in one for quite some time.
Of course, the kitties are an added bonus. I was delighted that Cindy brought a variety of cats in complete with names and descriptions. It really brought the Purry Parlor part of the Meowkins Coffee shop to life.
Here is my official review:
Cats, Witches, and Murder!
Daisy, a solitary witch and owner of a cat cafe becomes embroiled in a murder mystery. A handsome stranger ads more intrigue and a hint of romance. Cindy Stark does a wonderful job blending the paranormal with a murder mystery and sprinkling in romance, coffee, and kitties. If you are looking for a quick cozy read, this is it!
