Happy Tuesday, fellow readers! I hope that you all are having a fabulous summer. This week I'm bringing you a little off the wall humorous book called "Man of Ruin" by Oliver Franks. It is book one of the "Rocket Fuel Pee" series.
First, the trigger warnings.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Clean
Trigger Warnings:
Explicit language
Accidental death
Alcohol consumption
Mentions of urination
This was my first introduction to Oliver Franks, and I already love the style. Even the notes at the beginning of the book are hilarious. I honestly picked this one up because of the series title. Rocket Fuel Pee. I mean, come on! How unique is that?!
Dave is an interesting main character. Normally someone with a life-changing power is extraordinary in some way. Dave is overweight, unathletic, enjoys drinking and junk food way too much, and lives an otherwise very average and uneventful life. I think that is what makes him being the main character so brilliant. His utter lack of main character energy just makes the story for me.
The language is fantastic as well. I appreciate a good swear and there were plenty to love in this book. It was also written in British English and from the perspective of Dave, the main character. Not only is it written from Dave's point of view, but it's written like Dave is dictating the book itself. This lends to a truly unique reading experience that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Here is my official review.
A hilarious and unusual origin story.
What would you do if one day your urine suddenly became the most acidic substance on earth? I don't know the answer to that, but Oliver Franks gave us what the very English Dave Smith would do. Dave is a fabulously imperfect every day guy, and I adored following his antics. As an American, the language sometimes cracked me up, and I am absolutely here for it. I can't wait to see what happens next.

That's all for me for this week, dear readers. Please join me again next week for another wonderful recommendation. Until then, curl up with a good book.
