Happy Tuesday, fellow readers! It's the first day of April which happens to be my birthday month! Are you a diamond baby too? Hopefully we get some nice weather as a birthday treat. This week, I do have a literary treat for you. I have a fabulous paranormal crime thriller called "Latency" by Chris Coppel.

First, the trigger warnings.

Trigger Warnings:

Explicit language

Murder

Alcoholism

Violence

Demons

Killing of a coyote

Since it is a book that revolves around homicide detectives, it, of course, has some darker themes but nothing too bad. It does skip the romance and focuses on the thrill which is refreshing. I do enjoy romance and spice, but it's nice to have a break from time to time.

Chris Coppel created an extremely successful character in Mason. Teri is also a complex and successful character, but Mason gave me all of the emotions. I immediately felt bad for him, then I was angry on his behalf. I felt connected to him. I was frustrated for him, and later I was happy. A book can rarely make me so emotionally invested, and I absolutely love "Latency" for giving me that experience. The other characters are fabulously written as well and each one just adds to the rich story.

The world building is superb in this book.

I felt like I was in Los Angeles. The street names and descriptions, the traffic patterns, and the neighborhoods, even the style of architecture of the houses were all described in such detail that I had no trouble imagining exactly where these scenes were taking place.

The plot is absolutely solid and the book had me hooked from beginning to end. There were twists and turns and surprises just as a great thriller should have. I also enjoyed the humor. It could be crude at times, but I felt like that fit with the masculine police humor, and I loved the teasing of each other between Mason and Teri. I love them as a duo, and I definitely hope to read more about them in the future.

Here is my official review:

Thoroughly satisfying.

Chris Coppel has managed to create a paranormal crime thriller that kept me captivated from beginning to end. The realism and attention to detail is absolutely flawless. I felt like I was in LA. The humor is great and breaks up what could be slower areas or longer intense scenes. Chris was extremely successful in the character creation of Mason. I felt sorry for him immediately. I grew angry on his behalf. I empathized with his situations. I wanted justice or retaliation at least. The story and characters brought out raw emotions and that's when you know it's a great book.

If you love a great thriller go pick up Latency here:

That does it for me this week, dear readers. I hope that you join me again next week for more wonderful reads. Until then, curl up with a good book.
