Happy Tuesday, fellow readers! I hope that this finds everyone doing well. Today I present to you the last book of the book club event. I give to you a contemporary second chance military & movie star romance called Homebound by Margaret Malory.
First, the trigger warnings.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶🌶
Triggers:
Military/ warfare
Torture
9/11
Death of a spouse
Pregnancy
Mentions of suicidal thoughts
Okay, I know there are some heavy ones here and one in particular that you don't usually see, 9/11. I won't lie, it almost made me not read the book. I was afraid that it would be too much even for me or take away from the story. I'm glad that I didn't let it stop me. Yes, it is mentioned, but it isn't done in detail and it only serves to further the back story of Mac, the FMC.
I am an eclectic reader so I'm known to dabble in many genres, but like most people, I have favorites and least favorites. Contemporary romance is among my least favorites mainly because it can be predictable and boring. Homebound definitely was not boring. Predictable, yeah a little, but still not boring.
Let's talk characters. I think that Mac is now in with my favorite FMCs. She is a total baddass! A natural marksman with shooting championships and a mixed martial artist meshed with formal dance and piano lessons. She's the whole package. The MMC is sweet, romantic, and totally head over heels for Mac.
I did have some issues with the random flash backs. I think they could have been set up better so that the reader could expect them and they could flow better in the story. The time line jumping around needlessly is a bit of a pet peeve of mine. However, overall, the book is definitely worth reading.
Here is my review and my favorite quote:
Homebound is a second chance contemporary romance with an intriguing mix of military and movie star. Mac is now my favorite FMC from Margaret. She's such a bad@$$! The loyalty of all of those around her is heart warming. It seems long at first glance but the chapters are very short making it a quick read. If you want a super strong FMC and a swoon worthy MMC, this one is for you.
My favorite quote is from Mac in Chapter 23.
“You wanted to know how a mousey little thing like me could land a man like Vincent Clarke? Well, I. Have. No. Gag. Reflex.” I said, enunciating each word, then I stood."
I found that quote hilarious and a perfect way to spite an ex girlfriend of your current boyfriend.
There is a lot going on in this book and Margaret does a great job creating a page turning tale.
