Happy Tuesday, fellow readers! Can you believe that it's the last Tuesday of August, already?! Where did the summer go? My offspring had his first day of high school yesterday. It's crazy! It's a good time to get lost in a book! This week is our second book club pick: Betrayal of the Gorgon by Johnna Dee. It is a Greek mythology paranormal romance.
First, the trigger warnings:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶🌶
Trigger Warnings:
Strained relationship between mother and daughter
Death
Discrimination against men
Theft
Lying
On page sex
Kidnapping
Cliffhanger
Are you ready? Let's go!
I have read several books by Johnna, and I love Greek mythology, so I was excited for thus one. We get to meet Gorgons and read about tales of Greek gods and goddesses. I love that even though the characters are from times long gone they are brought into the modern day. Johnna does a fantastic job bringing us fantastic, well developed characters.
Like last week's selection, this is a novella and can be read quickly. As I said in the trigger warnings, this has a wicked cliffhanger. Johnna has assured that she's hard at work on book two, though, so fear not. Johnna brings us a bit of spice in this little treat. There are a couple of very detailed steamy scenes that will satisfy your smut cravings, hence the level two spice.
You may have noticed that I went with four stars instead of five. I absolutely adored the book, however, it is in need of editing/proofreading. It did not dull my enjoyment of the overall book, but it would make it a no go for a re-read. That's the difference to me between a 4 star and a 5 star book. Now that being said, I have read some of her newest work and I could really see the growth, so I know this book could be a 5 star.
Here is my official review:
Betrayal of the Gorgon brings us ancient Greek mythology in a modern day setting. Johnna does a great job as always with developing some wonderful characters. She brings us mystery, uncertainty, and romance. The turmoil between Aggie, the FMC, and Ajax, the MMC, is palpable. Johnna really brings their feelings to life. This one is a cliffhanger, so book two is definately needed. I look forward to reading what happens next.

That's all for me this week, dear readers. Thank you for joining me. Please come back next week to check out the third book club choice. Until then, curl up with a good book.
