Happy Tuesday, fellow readers! Happy August. Crazy, isn't it? If you have kiddos in school, I wish you luck getting everything ready for the new school year. This week's recommendation is a perfect adventure with magic, peril, and a little romance. It is called "Beneath the Canyons" by Kyra Halland.
Before we dive in, let's start with the trigger warnings.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶
Trigger Warnings:
Magic use
Guns
Death
Age gap
Mentions of r@pe
Physical abuse
Kidnapping
The triggers can seem daunting but please don't let them put you off. They are done well and all part of the perilous adventure.
I absolutely love that Kyra set this in a wild west style setting while still creating her own world. The world building is so well done that I want to just be in the book roaming around to explore it all. I love when an author manages to create that feeling.
The characters are mostly simplistic on the surface but seem to each have much more lurking beneath the surface. This is another of my favorite aspects in a book. I love when there seems to be more to characters and as a reader, I get to discover their secrets as the story or the series progresses.
I'm also a sucker for magic and any paranormal aspects so this book is right up my alley. "Beneath the Canyons" was my first book by this author. I found it through an anthology called "Sword & Magic" which has been great to read. I look forward to eventually reading more from Kyra.
Here is my official review:
A hunky mage bounty hunter, an unconventionally beautiful young magic user, and a wild west setting. Add a mad mage in disguise, greedy miners, a mysterious ancient threat, close minded small towns folk, and some misunderstood natives and you have this cravable book. Emotional angst, danger, and forbidden romance! It's a must read.

That does it for me for this week, dear readers. Please join me again next week for another wonderful recommendation. Until then, curl up with a good book.
