Happy Tuesday and happy 2025! I hope that you all had happy holidays. I'd like to kick off the new year with giving you two books to add to your reading list for this year.
Book one is a moving second chance romance called Heaven Enough by Ken La Salle.
First, the triggers:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶
Trigger Warnings:
Spousal death
Grief
Suspicions of cheating & suicide
Drinking & marijuana use
Age gap
Virgin FMC
Mentions of sex
Theft
Deceit
Cancer
Warning! This one can be a tear jerker! If you are looking for a beautiful happily ever after, this is not that kind of book. If you are looking for grief, emotional growth, and love even in loss, then this is your book.
Admittedly, "Heaven Enough" is not my normal type of book. I read it as part of an event called Cover to Cover Roulette hosted by Angelina Kerner. I am glad that I did. I did not want to love it the way that I did. I'm not a sad story lover. I'm not a sappy or emotional type. So, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this story.
Ken creates such indepth characters and gives us so many twists and turns that you can't help but to love them and their story. I love that the male main character, MMC, isn't perfect. Matt is a workaholic and admits to complaining and hating his job. It was refreshing to see an author cover the downside of financial success. There are other repercussions that Matt discovers, but I don't want to spoil anything. So, you'll have to just read it yourself.
My official review:
A heart wrenching tale of love, loss, and self discovery.
I wasn't ready for this one. I didn't want to love it, as it was sad, but I do. Much like Matt, I wasn't looking for love, but I found it anyway. "Heaven Enough" is heart breaking, emotional, and beautiful. If you are one who is looking for a good cry, this is your book. Even if you aren't, it's a wonderful heart wrenching read.
If you want to meet Matt and all of the wonderful characters that he meets on his journey, then you can pick up "Heaven Enough" here: https://a.co/d/4UGx9u0
Our second book is a historical highland romance called "Abducting Her Highlander" by Patricia Bates.
Of course we'll start with the trigger warnings.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶
Trigger Warnings-
Kidnapping
Sexism
Abuse
Low self-esteem
Mentions of cheating
Mentions of war
Mild sex scenes
Virgin FMC
"Abducting Her Highlander" is in the same series as "Her Mistaken Groom." It can definitely be read as a stand alone, though. Patricia brings us a complex female main character, FMC, in this one. Elayne endures a lot in this tale and shows everyone just what this strong Scottish lass is made of.
There are some hard themes here as you can see in the trigger warnings. However, I think that Patricia does a wonderful job having her characters grow and overcome these hardships.
Here is my official review:
"Abducting Her Highlander" introduces another wonderful Scottish couple from the mind of Patricia Bates. Elayne is so much stronger, smarter, and braver than she first appears. Ian is a perfect counterpart to her. I love how they make each other better. The tale is frought with peril, deceipt, and war, all with the undercurrent of a blooming romance. Overall, it is another great read from this author.
