Happy Tuesday, fellow readers. I hope that your August is still going well. For those in school or with kiddos in school, I hope the transition back to class isn't too rough. My son doesn't go back until the end of the month, so we have a bit more summer left. Speaking of summer, I have a recommendation that is hot and goes by quickly just like the summer. Please join me in checking out this spicy small town romance with a hint of mystery called "Declan" by Amanda Torrey.
First, let's start with the trigger warnings.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶🌶
Trigger Warnings:
Disappearance/missing person
Explicit content
Mistreatment of animals
Protesting
In typical mystery romance style, there aren't many triggers. The explicit content is, of course, the spicy bits. The mistreatment of animals is mostly talked about and not something that is described in graphic detail. The protesting is of said mistreatment. So overall, it's pretty tame.
The spice kind of took over and put the missing person plot onto the back burner. That disappointed me a bit leading to the four star rating. I definitely feel that the plot could have been thicker and more of the mystery could have been highlighted beside the romance. I enjoy a enemies to lovers trope so that part was good. It is a bit fast paced, though.
"Declan" is the first in the "Blackthorne Brothers Series." It does give us a glimpse at the other brothers while playing out Declan's romance with Rylee. Rylee is quite the fiery little character. I do enjoy her passion and determination. I like how she influences Declan as well. Their opposite agendas brings the enemies to lovers trope that I mentioned. The spice is nice, but as I stated, maybe a bit of a scene stealer.
Here is my official review.
"Declan" is a spicy introduction to the Blackthorne family and their dairy farm. The chemistry between Rylee and Declan is intense.
It's a very good start to the series. I wanted a bit more about the mystery, but hopefully that will come in book two.
It really is a good start to the series and great if you want a quick read. If you'd like to meet Declan and Rylee, you can get "Declan" here: https://a.co/d/009vfjtr
That does it for me for this week, dear readers. Please join me again next week for another wonderful recommendation. Until then, curl up with a good book.
