Happy Tuesday and happy April, fellow readers. The weather still can't make up it's mind here. I hope it is better where you are. If not, I definitely have a recommendation that will take your mind off of it. Please join me in checking out this sci-fi thriller romance called "Dreams of the Queen" by Jacqueline Patricks.
First, the trigger warnings.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶🌶
Trigger Warnings:
Explicit language
Death
Religion
Sex
Drugged drinks
Rape
This one has some dark themes and will definitely leave you guessing. It kept me on the edge of my seat and eager to turn page after page. The twists! Oh my! There are quite a few surprises, and I absolutely love when an author can manage that. I give kudos to Jacqueline Patricks for that accomplishment.
Characters. Wow. "Dreams of the Queen" has quite a color cast. Cass, our FMC, is brilliant, obsessive, sometimes rude, and quite complex. Jeamon, our MMC, is handsome, dutiful, and stands out from the crowd. There are scientists, soldiers, aliens, and an academic fiend. There are so many interesting people.
The world building is fantastic. Not only do we get a lab at MIT, but we get an alternate world and an underground city. The author does an amazing job bringing the locations to life.
Then, there is the romance. I did say there was romance, right? There are established relationships, things that never should have been, and then others that seemed meant to be. You'll find the romance somewhere between a tryst and true love. It's just steamy enough to matter but not so distracting that it takes away from the story.
Here is my official review.
What a journey!
Jacqueline Patricks really packs in the twists and turns in this sci-fi thriller! It keep me on the edge of my seat and hungry for more.
