Happy Tuesday, fellow readers! I apologize for my absence last week and the late hour on this week's post. Life has a way of sneaking up on you and keeping you from accomplishing things, doesn't it? I finally finished the novella that I've been trying to read for two weeks. Please join me in checking out this paranormal urban adventure called "Sins of the Nephilim" by Antara Mann.

First, the trigger warnings.

Trigger Warnings:

Hiding powers/existence

Violence

Global plague

Death

You may have noticed that I gave it a rare three stars. Besides life interfering, this novella felt incredibly slow to me and took way longer for me to finish than it should have. Maybe it was just me. That's the beauty of books though, isnt it? You can dislike something while someone else absolutely loves it. You can check it out and make your own decision.

Besides the issue with slow pacing, I found it to be extremely repetitive. The same information is given several times and the same phrases are used many times especially when the FMC, Aiya, is referring to her magic or accessing her magic. I think also a bit more flirtation between Aiya and Raphael could have brought in a bit more interest with the story. It needs some romantic suspense to break up all of the slow parts.

The premise is strong having been written in 2020 and referencing a global "plague" as well as some cheeky refrences to the social and political climates at the time. Some might not like that as a backdrop to the action, however I found it pretty clever. I like Aiya as the female main character. She is hardworking, strong willed, honest, and comes from a family who is strong in magic.

Overall, I did like the premise, and I hope that the pace picks up along with the romance in book two. If you'd like to give Aiya and all of the characters a chance, you can get "Sins of the Nephilim" here: https://a.co/d/04tTE23S

That does it for me for this week. Please join me again next week for another wonderful recommendation. Until then, curl up with a good book.
