Ruin

Happy Tuesday, fellow readers! Can you believe it's August already?! Where did July go? I swear that the summer months fly by too fast. Hopefully you have time to slow down long enough to read Kat Bethel's newest horror romance book called "Ruin." It officially releases on August 7th.

Before we jump in, let's start with the trigger warnings.

As you can see this one has a laundry list of triggers. It's quite the dark one where mental health is concerned so readers please beware.

I'd like to say that it's a beautiful story of overcoming the darkness, but it's more of a tale of learning to play with your demons.

Each of the books in this series are technically stand alones. "Ruin" is the 5th book and has more tie ins with past characters than the other four. You don't have to read the others before "Ruin" for it to make sense, however it makes more sense if you have read them. Especially since Esme and Willow are mentioned a lot.

I enjoy the Rinah witches with their mission to correct the wrongs of their ancestors and rid the world of monsters though some of the line, like our FMC Sasha, end up being claimed by them. Each book has a dark and often unhealthy relationship between witch and monster. "Ruin" seems to have rolled up everything into one impossibly toxic situation. How can you love a being that literally destroys everything and everyone in it's path? A creature made from the very shadows themselves. Usually a story gives you a strong character rescuing a broken character. This book gives us two extremely broken characters who somehow manage to balance each other out. It's definitely an interesting read.

Another Rinah witch and another dangerous monster. It's a winning combo every time. This one has very dark themes, so reader beware. I didn't like this one as much as Kat's other books in this series, however I definitely did enjoy it. It does have more tie ins to the other books with characters from previous books. It's certainly not one you'll want to read alone in the dark.
