Lies Among Gods

Happy Tuesday, fellow readers. Happy Summer! We had storms here yesterday evening. Thankfully we didn't have damage, but it does a number on the chronic illnesses. You know what a good distraction from the pain is? Reading! I have a fun one for you this week. Please join me in congratulating Johnna Dee on her newest release today with "Lies Among Gods." If you like mythological gods, an amazing FMC, and a hint of spice, you'll love this book.

I love this take on a mythology. Usually you have your typical Zeus and his dysfunctional family or Jupiter and his crew. This time the roles are familiar but the names are unique and some of the roles are different than the usual line up. There is a tidbit of history at the beginning of each chapter that gives a great deal of insight into the world and how things work between the mortals and the gods. I found it to be such a smart way to educate readers without risking an information overload.

The world building is so interesting. I love a good world building. Johnna brings us a seemingly smaller country/world built around religion. The gods are real and the people literally live and die by which one they worship. It's such a fascinating concept. I can envision the different temples, the grand hall, and the thrones. It's such a neat premise.

I'm also a fan of a strong FMC. Lyra is beyond tough. Imagine not having a safe spot in the world and feeling like you are never enough. Even Lyra's own family makes her life miserable. My heart broke for her and soared with her as she fought to overcome every obstacle in her way. I am a sucker for a good underdog style trope. The gods make up a whole cast of interesting characters, to go along with Lyra, with a few taking more prominent roles.

Over all, it was a book I didn't want to put down, and I'd happily read it over again.

Another triumph by Johnna Dee! Lyra immediately stole my heart, and I ached and wanted along with her. I raged at the injustice. I hoped. I cried. I waited. I rejoiced. I, too, weathered the storm. "Lies Among Gods" is a book that you don't want to miss.
